Po tÀu phÒ $$ |
tFinally a new and decent Vietnamese restaurant in Happy Valley. We have visited half a dozen times during their 'soft opening' and weren't disappointed. This stylish restaurant offers a selection of fresh and tasty authentic Vietnamese dishes, with the odd special from time to time. The service is fast and efficient, and the staff extremely friendly too.
There are a few choices of Pho and all are pretty good. Other dishes we love are the grilled pork noodle salad, grill pork sandwich and summer rolls. The sandwich was to die for and the salad has bags of flavour and is really a very refreshing dish. The grilled pork was always the highlight for me, until I had this weeks 'Sunday Special' - beef stew which just takes me back to both Vietnam and my childhood. A well balanced, scrumptious and flavoursome stew which I wish would never end! The stew comes with a choice of baguette or noodles - comfort food at its very best!
They also serve a selection of soft drinks, beer and Vietnamese coffee. Try the salted lemon soda - my favourite. This place is getting better and better and I can't wait until they add a few more dishes once they fully open.

Little Bao $$ |
Traditional Chinese bao is making a comeback in the culinary scene of late, and i think it has a lot to do with local chef May Chow and her Little Bao restaurant.
The original restaurant in SoHo was near impossible to get a seat, so when they opened their second place in Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay, we instantly became regulars.
Baos are obviously the highlight, the Szechuan fried chicken bao and slow braised pork belly bao are our must. The fried chicken has a subtle yet addictive numbing spiciness to it, and it’s fried to perfection with a crispy exterior coating the juicy fillet. Meanwhile, the slow-braided pork belly is a mouth-gasm with every bite. It’s so soft and tender, and bao just soaks up all that sauce.
Apart from baos, there is also an array of other sharing dishes, which are a well balanced mix of western and Asian flavours. We like the stir-fried brussels sprouts, wagyu potstickers, and truffle fries.
Oh and don’t forget to have the dessert baos - a deep fried version of the bao wrapped between a generous block of ice cream.

Samsen $$ ⭐️ |
A tiny little Thai eatery in Wan Chai, conveniently adjacent to the famous “Blue House”, is always full of diners waiting outside, even in the scorching heat, all for just a bowl of their signature Thai boat noodles, and then some.
It’s not hard to understand the appeal once you have tired it and is easily hands down one of the most consistent restaurants in Hong Kong, and happens to my favourite too.
It offers a condense menu of rustic yet elevated Thai hawker food essentials, such as pork neck salad, Thai-style fried rice, stir-fried thick rice noodles, fluffy crabmeat omelet, etc. All packed with ample flavours and aromatics thanks to the generous use of fresh ingredients flown in from Thailand daily, as well as the arsenal of spices.
The ambience of the restaurant is boisterous, but in a good way, like as if you are on a street corner of Bangkok, but without the sweat…that is if you could manage to get a table.

Ye shanghai $$$ |
This is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, as I always feel at home here. The staff are great and the food extremely good. Once again, this is a restaurant that's has got its act together. Consistently serving up tasty modern traditional Shanghainese dishes.
The menu includes some seasonal delights, so you can always try something new. If your not sure what to order, just ask the staff and they will make some good suggestions for you. This is another establishment that I usually take my guests too, all of which love it!

Sushi Kuu $$$ |
Consistent is perhaps the word for Sushi Kuu. Although I feel its lost a little bit of the atmosphere more recently, the food is consistently good, prepared to a high standard and of high quality. The service is pretty quick and professional too. They survive where many others have failed because of this.
Whilst I don't go there as often as I used too these days, its still one of the most stable restaurants in Hong Kong Central. Moreover, everyone I have ever taken there, loves it, so that's the real testament to Sushi Kuu.

LockCha Teahouse $$ |
Hidden away in Hong Kong park is this delightful tea house offering a delicious selection of vegetarian dim sum washed down by some of the worlds finest teas. The tea section is extensive and you can also learn a lot more about the tea at their museum.
The food is home cooking style, focused more on the taste rather than presentation. The menu is small but adequate.
This is a very enjoyable lunchtime experience for locals and visitors alike.

Chuen Kee Seafood $$ |
Chuen Kee Seafood restaurant in Sai Kung gets a mention in the 2019 Michelin Guide. This family run restaurant offers a wide range of seafood fresh from the tank! You can choose the seafood yourself or leave it for them. Just tell them how you want it cooked and they do the rest. Fresh is guaranteed here as everything is plucked from the tank and cooked to order.
Whilst its not the most attractive looking place, its clean and efficient, and the hustle and bustle of the harbour front walk adds to the charm of the eating experience.
I have visited the place several times and never a bad meal.

Mrs. Hunan $$ |
Prepare for a sensory overload! Mrs. Hunan is not for the faint heart, as they don't go lightly on the spices. The traditional Hunan dishes are full of favour once you cut through the mouth numbing chillies. Whilst a beer helps (not really), I want to eat more. The taste is simply mouth-watering.
My favourite dish is the spicy steamed fish head, which I eat with a bowl of their homemade noodles. The noodles are actually the highlight for me. And once you add the spicy sauce too them, it's a fiery heaven.
Bring a towel as you will sweat a lot here but it’s worth it. However, the bill won’t make you sweat as its very reasonably priced.

FRANCIS $$ |
Super little restaurant with a good neighbourhood vibe. Francis serves extremely tasty Middle Eastern dishes which will have you begging for more. They really packed in the favour.
We shared pretty much everything on the lunchtime menu (the food is made for sharing), which was a wise decision as I wanted to try everything and I was glad I did!. It was excellent value for money too.
The restaurant is also the perfect place to chill-out over a glass of wine from their extensive collection.

hong kong cuisine $$$ |
I am never really sure what to order here, but am usually happy with my choices. The menu comes in the form of an iPad and can view and select the dishes you want, then simply press 'order'. It's quite a nice system once you get used to it.
The restaurant as the name suggests serves up a good selection of Cantonese dishes, as well as dim sum at lunch. The food itself is pretty good, flavoursome and well presented. They also have a full bar service available if you fancy a glass or two. My only compliant is that it is perhaps a little bit on the pricey side for the location.
In the end of the day, I guess you are paying for the experience, as the restaurant if fairly smart and the service extremely good. I like it as its a spacious and relaxing environment to dine in.
A good place for a large group of family or friends too.

Oddies Foodies $ |
A desert with a difference in Central!
Do you often fancy a refreshing desert after dinner or just want to indulge in a tasty snack? Well Oddies Foodies may be just the place to tickle your fancy!
Their signature 'Eggette Parfaits' offer an original yet quirky take on an ice cream by combining the traditional Hong Kong eggette into the mix.
Made from Italian low fat soft gelato with a good choice scrumptious toppings (see menu) and eggette to match, I guarantee you won't want it to end!
They have a few seats inside and are dog friendly, but most customers tend to walk around the area showing off their delight!

Dalloyau $$$ |
I have visited Dalloyau in Pacific Place a few times and have to admit the food is consistently good. The restaurant is small and a little lacking in atmosphere but the food is really good.
I choose a Lobster menu on this visit and everything was extremely well presented and tasty, I just couldn't fault it. My Lobster bisque was wholesome, Lobster salad tangy and refreshing and Lobster risotto divine. No complaints!
My friend went for a French onion soup, Scallop salad and Lobster sandwich. Again all of which were equally flavoursome and visually stunning. We were both too full for dessert, so just had a coffee to finish.
Whilst a little pricey, its actually fair value for money considering they use good quality and expensive ingredient and the portions are not compromised either.

LUMI $$$ |
Lumi is Pacific Place is good for a quick business lunch at a responsible price. Although its not as cheap as many of the restaurants in the mall (most offer a quick and discounted lunch for HK$150-200), it offers a quiet and good environment for a pleasant meal.
I went for the cream corn soup for starters followed by Atlantic Salmon. Both where very tasty and the Salmon was served with an element of a smokey reveal drama. The desert was ok but a little too sweet for my liking, as a fairly light main course (desert is optional for an extra HK$25).
Prices are around HK$325-HK$400 per person for a 3 course lunch with tea or coffee included. Not bad value for the environment and the food is always good.
