eat in Tokyo
WAGYUMAFIA $$$⭐️ |
WAGYUMAFIA THE CUTLET SANDWICH in Nakameguro, is the home of the world-famous, signature Kobe Beef Chateaubriand Cutlet Sandwich, the Cutlet Sandwich shop is haute cuisine meets street food. This is the first destination I head for when I arrive in Tokyo. The sandwiches are simply out of this world, really, believe me! The staff are super friendly and its usually fairly quiet when mid-week lunchtimes. I normally share a Tenderloin and Kobe Sirloin with a friend, with truffle fries and a salad to accompany them. Not the cheapest sandwich in the world, just the best! Its also customary for the staff to take a picture of all guests for their instagram account. So smile and make sure they tag you!
Futsu ni Fruits $ |
Fruit sandwich has indeed been a staple snack for Japanese kids for quite some time, but it’s making a come back in the past couple of years and it’s not hard to understand its appeal. They are perfectly photogenic for Instagram, and they do taste rather refreshing as an afternoon snack under the summer sun accompanied by a nice cup of coffee or tea. We discovered this colourful fruit sandwich shop called Futsu ni Fruits in our beloved neighbourhood Naka-meguro in Tokyo, which offers a wide variety of fruit sandwiches using different seasonal fruits such as strawberries, kiwi, tangerine and many more. But make sure you don’t get there too late, because all the sandwiches are freshly made daily, and they do get sold out rather quickly. The mixed fruit sandwich and kiwi sandwich we tried were both very tasty, and the layer of whipped cream provided a velvety texture when you bite into them without being heavy, and all that is left is a refreshing taste that keeps you wanting a second bite.
Kazami Ramen $⭐️ |
There is certainly no shortage of ramen places in Tokyo, but I was quite curious when I came across Kazami ramen in Ginza. Tucked away in a small alleyway in the middle of busy Ginza, Kazami ramen offers ramen centres around its signature broth, which is made out of thick chicken stock paired with - drum rolls- sake kasu, which is the fermentation left over from making sake wines, and something that’s usually being discarded. This unique ingredient adds an element of “bitter sweetness” to the stock, think evaporated white wine in a mussel broth, so that it cuts away the heaviness of the thick chicken broth. I also loved the deep-fried tofu pieces, which I ordered an extra portion for, as it is perfect for soaking up that wholesome soup base. There is always a queue outside the shop despite being in such a hidden alleyway, but it is definitely worth the wait and effort in finding it…unless you are willing to go there 11am sharp when they open, which is what I did.
Mr. Farmer $$ |
After heavy eating in Tokyo, we fancied a salad for brunch, and we found just the perfect place. Mr Farmer has several locations in Tokyo, and the one we went to was just off Omotesando. The eatery prides itself from using locally sourced vegetables, and its menu offers a wide selection of healthy yet tasty salads, breakfast, nutritious, vegan options and house-blend beverages, putting a fun spin on healthy eating. I had the soup and salad combo as well as the avocado toast, and you can instantly taste the freshness of all the ingredients used. Their home-made salad dressing complements the salad perfectly without the extra calories while everything looks vibrant and appetising. The restaurant has a very warm and rustic atmosphere, which is ideal for a casual weekend brunch with friends or for the health conscious who wants eat well but crave for tasty options at the same time.
Bongen Coffee ginza $ |
As a coffee addict this is the type of small local coffee shop I love to find. Tucked away in a little side street off the main Ginza shopping strip, Bongen is a small yet classy cafe. You know your about experience something special before you enter.
Serving a limited range of drinks and snacks, Bongen is focused on quality rather than quantity, makes them a stand out cafe to visit. The shop is cute and the service professional. I just love the raisin sandwiches (biscuit) as they are the perfect complement to a great coffee.
All in all a great cafe to drink at (they only have a few seats) or grab a takeway from. Highly recommended for any coffee lover (oh and don't forget the raisin biscuit!).
